Notes: Well, I never thought I would be a doing a translation of a Super Junior song, Chinese subgroup or otherwise. I like Hankyung (韓庚) but...thirteen is just too much. It’s the principle of the thing. Anyway, the melody is catchy and the lyrics are sweet, but the main reason why I translated this is because the translations I’ve seen are so horribly wrong. Someone actually translated 直到感覺你的皺紋 / 有了歲月的痕跡 as “knowing that I felt your impression / having the moon’s impression.” Where do I even start? Whoever it was mistook 直到 (until) as 知道 (knowing), and while both are “zhi dao” in pinyin…and continues to mistake this. Anyway, 皺紋 means wrinkles, and 歲月, literally the characters “age” + “moon” combines to mean the years of a person’s life. It is NOT to be translated as “the moon.” I could continue ranting about all the OTHER things that were totally mistranslated, but I think you get that if this were a Chinese test, the person would’ve gotten an F.
This is the incorrect translation I’m ranting about. Read at your own risk here.
Obviously, I too make mistakes in translations and sometimes I can be downright careless, but these aren’t even mistakes, they’re just wrong. It’s nice that someone is trying to translate, but I’m of the opinion that if you’re going to translate, then it’s your duty to do it as accurately as possible, because a lot of people will rely on it. Why bother translating at all if you’re just going to be so far off the mark that you might as well have written your own thing?
